This week I learned about how a Content Alignment Summary Report can help us process content strategies through organizational objectives. It’s an important step for brands and organizations as it helps paint a picture as to how tactical strategies can align across the organization.
Typically, there are three key elements for an optimal content alignment strategy:
- Alignment, which is the integration of business and organizational strategies
- Execution, or the standardized approach of conducting process initiatives; and
- Strategy, the actual plan that helps us achieve a specific objective
My goal this week was to get hands-on practice creating a Content Alignment Summary Report. My task? Assume I was the Content Strategist for SellMyApp.com, an online marketplace for buying and selling mobile source code, and help develop its content strategy.
Some backstory
Chupamobile.com was the first marketplace app developers could buy professional apps and games, and was the biggest brand in its niche. Its business objective was to not only sell app templates for game developers, but educate the expanding market by developing a content strategy to share blogs and grow its web traffic.
In 2015, SellMyApp came into the scene and eventually acquired Chupamobile.com’s domain in 2019. Rather than incorporating ChupaMobile’s content strategy plan, however, SellMyApp has erased any association with Chupamobile.
Present day
SellMyApp’s current business objective from C-level management is to regain market share as the No. 1 marketplace where people can buy and sell apps. Over the past few years, some of their market share has declined as a results of other competitors such as Flippa.com and Codester.com.
By exploring their website, it’s easy to spot a lot of opportunities for growth. Some of these include creating an About Me tab on its homepage that explains their business objective in detail, differentiating pages or tabs by who wants to buy a game and who wants to sell one, and ensuring the website is legible, easy to read and navigate and free of typos. Another suggestion that could go a long way content wise would be to bring back Chupamobile’s blog for additional content, and utilize their social media pages to bring users back to the website for added traffic.

After creating this Content Alignment Summary Report, I learned that it really can help set achievable goals that align with the brand’s key objectives while optimally engaging with employees. When everyone has a clear understanding of the organization’s strategy, it makes the experience better for the brand, its employees and its community.
